Ubuntu Linux Experience

July 10th, 2007

Ok, lately I’ve been playing around a LOT with Linux. I have a Gateway MX7118 that I use as my main computer. In the past few weeks I have reloaded it several times going back and forth between Linux and Windows Media Center. I have also used VMWARE to run a virtual version of both. I have really settled with UBUNTU. It’s easy to load and there is a lot of documentation available on their forums.

Linux isn’t always the easiest OS to work with. It really stinks in the area of wireless networking, but that is coming along too though. But, it is an amazing OS. It’s ultra stable. There are thousands of free apps available. Overall, this has been a great experience for me.

I’ll be blogging about my experience in the near future.

Web 2.0 Madness Grips China!

June 9th, 2007

It had to happen. I’ve watched over the past few years as the young in China have made a living, earned enough money to have free time, and had money left over for spending on stuff. Now it seems those circumstances have grown into a full blown Web 2.0 craze! Read this article from ZDnet to find out more:

Get an Invitation to Joost!

May 7th, 2007

In case you haven’t heard, Joost.com is a new, Internet based, TV of sorts. It is basically a free, video-on-demand service. A lot of major networks are coming on board. If they are able to convince a few more networks to come on board, it just might be the next big thing.

They recently went to "Joost Beta - Now for Friends." That means, you can get in their beta program if a friend invites you.

Ok, so here’s the deal. Post a comment to this site and I will invite you to Joost as a friend. A positive comment would be nice! It might even get you a quicker invite! Don’t forget to add me to Del.icio.us or Stumbleupon! Thanks!

How to Send Text Messages (SMS) from Your Browser!

April 9th, 2007

Google does it again! Maybe I need to go to work for them or something. Last week, I found an AWESOME extension for Firefox, "Google Send to Phone." It allows you to send text that you find while browsing to any US based mobile phone! The possibilities are endless. I have already used it to send myself a link to a download. I’ve also used it to send contact info from an email on my desktop to my phone. Pretty sweet.

You must use Firefox browser to use this. Use the link near the top of this page to download it. You can download "Google Send to Phone" here.

Leave Outlook and Thuderbird Behind…Use Gmail Notifier

March 20th, 2007

Ok, so I’ve talked a lot about Gmail. I have switched completely to it. I never open Thunderbird anymore. I only open Outlook for its PIM features (Actually, I stopped using Outlook for email about 2 years ago. It was just too dang bulky!) So what did it take to complete the switch? It took the Gmail Notifier by Google.
